The Longing of the Soul - November 2017

The call of the soul comes in many different ways. Sometimes it is a dramatic experience of revelation. It can be a deep inner knowing. And, the soul can call to you through feelings, life circumstances, illness, injury, friends, mates, and children.

The soul often calls through our most unwanted circumstances in life. As the soul rises to the surface, its purpose is to draw to your attention the parts of life that are not in alignment with your soul’s calling. It is often our brilliant soul pulling us out of the darkness of our illusion and into the light of truth.

There is another type of soul’s call that goes unrecognized. Most of us feel the call of the soul as deep depression, sadness, loneliness, or despair at some point in life. We feel abandoned, don’t want to live, or lose all interest in life. These feelings are indications that the soul is rising to the surface and trying to emerge. This is the Longing of the Soul

The deepest desire of the soul is to reunite with God. To go Home. Do you feel that desire as a loneliness or a feeling that something is missing that nothing can satisfy?

Are you longing to return to a full connection with the love of God?

The illusory self or ego was created to give us the experience of separation. You could think of material creation, including our solar system and the universe as an experiment in separation from God or the source of all that is. When separation was desired, it wasn’t really possible to be separate from God so this illusion came into being. We are under the illusion that we are this person, this body, these thoughts, these circumstances, this job, male, female, a spouse, parent, child, sibling, Christian, Hindu, Buddhist, Muslim, American, British, Australian, old, young, sick, healthy.

The illusion is a very clever system of keeping us in the darkness of ignorance, disconnected from the truth of our being and our connection to all that is.

During the early stages of our material experience, the illusion is complete. The ego is in total control to fully develop a separate identity. This is separate will. We are watched and loved by God, our soul, our eternal self, the angels, and the Heavenly Host as they patiently wait for us to act out our desires in material experience. The ego is having fun creating and playing. We are like a little child out in the playground who doesn’t want to come in. There is an irresistible attraction to this experience.

Eventually, some part of us begins to tire of the effort and pain of being separate. It takes tremendous effort to keep up the illusion. At the same time, it takes tremendous effort to become aware of the illusion. Kind of like a Chinese finger puzzle – the harder you pull at it, the tighter the illusion gets.

We become curious about other possibilities and begin to explore spirituality, metaphysics, science – the Great Mystery. What is it that we can’t see, hear or feel, but know is there? This is evidence that the illusion is thinning and our soul is beginning to emerge to guide us. Our Awakening begins.

As the influence of the soul rises into awareness, support comes from the true realm of existence. The Heavenly Host – God, angels, our true selves – literally knock at the door to our hearts. How do they do that? This contact must come through our physical being in ways that we can notice; through our feelings and life circumstances.

The deep longing is very precious to the soul. To the ego, it is intolerable. The ego does everything it can to repress and deny it, to fog it over with confusion. This longing signals the death of the ego. The next step is to surrender that intolerable pain to God. In the surrender, the pain is transformed into Divine Love. At the optimal moment, the soul guides you to the teacher who knows the way.

Wellness Tip
Turmeric, More than a Spice
Turmeric is a spice commonly used in foods such as curry powders, mustards and cheeses. New evidence suggests that its active ingredient, curcumin, might prevent or treat some diseases. The National Institutes of Health is recruiting patients for clinical trials to test curcumin against pancreatic cancer, multiple myeloma (a form of cancer), Alzheimer's and colorectal cancer. Curcumin is not thought to be toxic but high doses or long-term use may cause indigestion. Stay tuned for future updates.

World is Running out of Antibiotics?
The World Health Organization has released a new report examining the lack of new antibiotics in development to deal with the increasing threat of antimicrobial resistance. At this time, the medicines being developed are modified versions of existing classes of antibiotics and only serve as short-term solutions to antibiotic resistance. Of the 51 new drugs in development, only eight are innovative. In fact, according to the WHO, no major antibiotics have been developed over the last 30 years. There are 13 classes of priority pathogens that are becoming increasingly resistant to available antibiotics. Some of these pathogens cause common infections like...

Recipe
Lighter Bran Muffins
Category: Desserts
Description: Compared to the buttery, icing-piped white scones and tartlets in the pastry case, the bran muffin always seems like the obvious choice for the hungry healthy-breakfast browser. The bran adds a good bit of fiber and a little protein, too. But most bakery batters are made fluffy with white flour and sweetened with enough sugar to cover four glazed donuts—a 400-plus-calorie breakfast with more than 70g of carbs, most from refined sources like white flour and brown sugar. And the portion size? These muffins are enormous. Our mission: Bring the bran muffin back into balanced territory with 100% whole grains and no refined sugar—but still keep it moist and packed with flavour.
