Publisher's Message ~ January 2012 Issue

Greetings to all our OK In Health members,

Wishing you an amazing New Year 2012, full of Joy, Happiness and new Adventures and that you and your loved ones are surrounded by love, laughter, growth, peace, and good health. Allow time to follow your bliss, whatever that may be.
Let yourself be surprised!

It's exciting to realise that another year has gone by and that we embark into the 8th year of OK In Health. These years have seen one of the biggest passions of my life come to fruition – that of bringing together those who have the gift of the knowledge of healthy ways of living and healing with those who wish to explore them.

This eMagazine could not happen without the amazing skill of our programmers and web designers at Edis Computers, our knowledgeable authors, our column host managers, proof readers and all our wonderful members who posted events with us and to you for reading the eMagazine.

In bringing OK in Health to life, a pathway has been found to set up connections between our local health & healing community practitioners. OK In Health is a strong promoter of providing a forum for both conventional and traditional medicine systems to reach those in need of these services. It also opens doors onto preventive medicine and natural therapeutics by providing up-to-date information for our members.

We start the year with many new workshops, classes, and events. To set powerful goals in motion for the New Year ... see our many New Year articles below. As editor, I have so enjoyed reading and publishing them for you!

Thank you for reading this eMagazine, I hope you get as much pleasure receiving it as we had in sending it. Please feel free to contact us if there is anything we can do for you. We welcome you to our website and the whole team here at OK In Health wish you well.

Thank you for you continued support and loyalty.

From Our Hearts to Yours,

Yours In Health,

Maria Carr and The OK In Health Team

Raw Pecan Truffles

Raw nuts are a healthy addition to any diet. They’re a great snack on their own, added to recipes, or turned into milk or used in recipes like the raw truffles. This recipes calls for 1 cup of pecans. Pecans are particularly good for you because they contain more antioxidants than any other nut, according to a recent report published in the Journal of Agriculture and Food Chemistry. Antioxidants are substances found in foods that protect against cell damage and, studies have shown, can help fight diseases like heart disease, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and cancer. Just a handful of pecans contains vitamin E, calcium, magnesium, potassium, zinc and fiber, as well as antioxidants. And because pecans are so rich in heart- healthy fat, it doesn't take too many to feel full. In fact, studies have shown that eating nuts has a beneficial effect on the waistline. This recipe is quick, easy, healthy, and delicious!

Sodium-Reduce Banana Bread

This Sodium Reduce Bannad bread recipe has only 757 mg per 12 slices that equals to 63mg per slice. To compare on bagel is about 400 mg of sodium. If you've never experimented with different ingredients, making changes to a recipe may seem daunting. To be fair, sometimes simple changes can ruin a recipe. But with some knowledge of the ingredients' functions, you can lower the risk of having to put your creation go right from the oven into the garbage. In this banana bread recipe (and other "quick breads" like muffins), the role of salt is simply to add flavour. Therefore, removing it should only affect the taste. By comparison, in bread made with yeast, salt also control how quickly bread rises. You cannot remove it without making other changes to the recipe.

Raw - Noodles with Alfredo Sauce

Kelp Noodles are a sea vegetable in the form of an easy to eat raw noodle. Made of only kelp (a sea vegetable), sodium alginate (sodium salt extracted from a brown seaweed), and water, Kelp Noodles are fat-free, gluten-free, and very low in carbohydrates and calories. Their noodle form and neutral taste allow for a variety of uses including salads, stir-fries, hot broths, and casseroles, while their healthful content provides a rich source of trace minerals including iodine, which kelp is well known for. Their unique texture completes the package, making Kelp Noodles a one-of-a-kind healthful and tasty alternative to pasta and rice noodles. Best of all, no cooking is required. Just rinse and add the noodles to any dish and they are ready to eat!

My spiritual master:

Getting the call

Over the past 5 weeks we have had news of many people who have transitioned from this life, and of the three closest to me, it has inspired me to certainly put the concepts of The Happiness Project to the test. As I settle in from our journey to celebrate the lives of those we will miss, sharing memories and moments with those close to us, and in the midst of this, re-organizing Christmas holidays to get used to a new norm, I find myself tending towards an attitude of gratefulness for the connections shared, the memories made, and the life we have co-created.

Hearing one speak about the impact that our loved ones have had on another during a heart-felt eulogy, or in the receiving line gathering afterwards, was a gift that amplified the connections and visits we were able to have in our old home town over the past few weeks. Not being afraid of the tears that come from our sadness and loss, became a doorway to laughter and joy as on the heels of our pain, came the memory and the joy of an unforgettable moment.

My father in law is for me a spiritual master, from how he lived his life on this earth, to how he chose to transition to the heavens. With grace, with humour, bringing us together to celebrate and to love our life and each other.

When I started the Happiness Project I remember how grateful I was that our lives had not really been touched too close to home by tragedy, I thought it would be an easy enough thing to do, and as I sit here on the other side, I am much more grateful now, for the perspective and the happiness deposits that are the wings of grace to get through difficult times.

To those who have lost a loved one, especially over the holiday season, my heart goes out to you, may you find peace and comfort in your memories, and in the knowledge that within you, that person continues to be a gift in the world.

~ Lyndsay

Blowout: Is Canada Next in 2012? by Environment Care Articles
Blowout: Is Canada Next? builds a picture of what an offshore drilling disaster would look like on Canada's East coast. Just weeks after the Deepwater Horizon blowout in the Gulf, Chevron began drilling Canada's deepest oil exploration well off the coast of Newfoundland. Located 430 kms from shore, the Chevron well is twice as deep as BP's Deepwater Horizon well, six times further out to sea, and in much rougher seas. In the event of a blowout, it would take 11 days for emergency response ships to even reach the spill. An oil blowout off the coast of Newfoundland would decimate the world's last remaining Atlantic cod fishery, along with several species of whales, seals, turtles, coral habitats and seabirds that feed in the basin.....
