Lisa's Easy Lentil Salad

Makes a great side dish or scooped onto organic tortilla chips as an appetizer. Lentils have a very long association with mankind, as it is believed that these pulses have been included in human diet since Neolithic times. According to historians, lentil plants are among the first domesticated ones in the near East (countries of Western Asia between the Mediterranean Sea and Iran), which is believed to be the place of origin of these plants. The color of lentils range from yellow, red and green to brown and black. Most varieties of white, red and yellow lentils are sold after removing their seed coat (decorticated forms). Lentils are rich in protein, with over 25% of lentils nutritional value being protein. This makes lentils the most popular and inexpensive source for protein, especially for those, who cannot afford meat and for vegetarians. Apart from proteins, lentils have essential amino acids, dietary fiber, folate, other vitamins and minerals. 200 grams of cooked lentils contain 18 grams of protein, 40 grams of carbohydrates, 15 grams of dietary fiber, 4 grams of sugar and 138 grams of water. Calorie content in lentils is around 230 (for 200 grams of cooked lentils).

Arugula Mango Salad

The Health Benefits Of Arugula. All salad greens are healthy, right? Most are very low in calories, but not all give you a good dose of nutrients. Isn't it time to ditch the iceberg lettuce and try something different? Discover the delicious health benefits of arugula. Arugula, also known as salad or garden rocket, is a nutritious leafy green vegetable of Mediterranean origin. It belongs to the brassicaceae family like mustard greens, cauliflower, kale…etc and has scientific name Eruca sativa. Salad rocket is a low growing annual herb features dandelion like succulent, elongated, lobular leaves with green veins. Young plant features plain light green color leaves, which appear identical to that of spinach. Young, tender leaves feature sweet, nutty, flavor with less peppery taste than strong spicy flavored mature greens. Rocket salad is rich source of certain phytochemicals such as indoles, thiocyanates, sulforaphane and iso­thiocyanates. Together they have been found to counter carcinogenic effects of estrogen and thus help benefit against prostate, breast, cervical, colon, ovarian cancers by virtue of their cancer cell growth inhibition, cytotoxic effects on cancer cells. Rocket is very good source of folates. 100 g of fresh greens contain 97 mcg or 24% of folic acid. When given around conception period it helps prevent neural tube defects in the newborns. This vegetable also rich Vitamin A, C and in B-complex group of vitamins such as thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, vitamin B-6 (pyridoxine), and pantothenic acid those are essential for optimum cellular enzymatic and metabolic functions.

Raw Almond Cherry Macaroons

Cherries can be sweet or sour, red or black. My favorite varieties are the big black ones. We used to enjoy “Bing” cherries I commonly now see a variety called “Lapins”. Cherries contain anthocyanins, the red pigment in berries. Cherry anthocyanins have been shown to reduce pain and inflammation. Anthocyanins are also potent antioxidants. In addition, they appear to significantly lower blood levels of cholesterol and triglycerides. Cherries are considered a warm food and are great for increasing circulation. They make an excellent detoxifying food, helping the body eliminate uric acid and cleanse the kidneys. They contain ellagic acid, an anticancer compound. So, not only do they taste fabulous, they are also very healthy. A word of caution, cherries are considered to be part of the “Dirty Dozen” when it comes to fruits and vegetables that have been found to contain the highest levels of pesticide residues. So, it is vitally important to choose only organically grown cherries. They may be considerably more expensive, but your health is worth every extra penny you spend. Fresh cherries are best stored in a bag in the fruit drawer of your refrigerator. They can also be pitted and frozen into serving sized portions. How many calories does it take to lose one pound?

Thank you Carlie for your questions. Theoretically, about 3500 calories equals one pound of body weight. This means that you'd have to take in 3500 fewer calories than you usually do, over a period of time, to lose one pound. Keep in mind, this is in theory; what happens in the real world can be very different.
Often, as we eat less, our bodies expend calories at a slower rate (that is, our metabolism decreases). Perhaps this occurs to ensure our survival, or just to defend a comfortable body weight. In any event, this slowdown is a real phenomenon, and has been shown in many laboratory studies — it's called diet induced adaptive thermogenesis. If your calorie expenditure falls, it can be increasingly difficult to take in few enough calories to lose weight. This can be quite a frustration and challenge to the person trying to shed some pounds.
So, while it's nice to have an equation that works in the lab, the 3500-calorie figure may not play out so tidily in reality. However, it can serve as a goal if you are trying to lose weight. By cutting 500 calories a day (a total of 3500 per week), and otherwise eating a balanced diet, you may find you lose approximately a pound a week. This rate of weight loss is considered reasonable and healthy.
While simple math might suggest that one could cut thousands of calories per day and shed pounds in the blink of any eye, more realistic and lasting weight change happens gradually. Skipping meals can actually have a negative impact on weight management. To keep your metabolism speeding along, consider having 4 or 5 smaller meals and snacks throughout the day. In addition to providing consistent energy and maintaining your metabolism, you may be more likely to resist those "snack attacks" that happen with extreme hunger. Finally, an important factor in keeping your metabolism moving is participating in regular exercise, which is good for you regardless of whether you're trying to lose weight or just curious about calories.

Astrology is a natural psychology which honors the reality of archetypes. By their very nature and existence, archetypes imply a deep and intrinsic intelligence woven into the very fabric of and at the source of all life. Generally, this source is referred to as God. The extreme factions of science represent an atheistic perspective, where there is no God. Yet, can the intelligent design of life be traced to randomness? This is the common assumption in science. The anthropomorphic image of God as a great man in the sky may well be an infantile notion. Yet dismissing the existence of a creative force in nature is extreme, a case of ‘throwing out the baby with the bathwater’. Archetypes are the building blocks of nature and these can basically be recognized as shapes. Every shape can be understood to have its own unique ‘character’ and, by extension, we may cite differences in the ‘psychology’ of a circle compared with that of a square or a triangle,...
