Change.....

by Sue Chambers - Certified Life Coach,   Williams Lake

Right now the world is in the process of a huge change.  What does it mean?  Change can happen rapidly and is something that we are constantly faced with.  Change is never far from us, whether it is breaking up with someone, having someone move away, loss of someone or a job or anything that once meant a great deal, but didn't turn out the way we were hoping.

Being prepared for change involves flexibility, strength and a belief in ourselves.

When you think about it, change is always forced on us whether we want it or not.  We start out as children in a family and adopt the ways of our parents until we come of age and start to break away.  We then search for ways that work for us and feel comfortable to live with in our lives.  Things change again, working with a partner to come together and make a new life.  Next, adding children to the mix and then even greater changes come.  Our life is now full of responsibility for other lives and we have to adapt to whatever their needs may be at any given time.

There are steps to take that will make changes more acceptable and easier to deal with:

Be prepared.  We all know that life is full of unexpected surprises.  The easiest way is to accept the reality of change and that it is inevitable.  Realize that the only thing you can control is yourself and how you percieve the change.

Empower yourself so that when you are faced with change you will be able to go with the changes smoothly, helping to lessen their impact.

Give yourself the time to adapt to the change.  Only you know how long it will take to recoup and everyone is different depending on the type of change that comes.

Look for the silver lining of change.  Look for opportunities that you can make use of and the chance to recall many wonderful times you have had.  Be grateful.

When change comes, stay positive and let others rally around you for support.

Have a purpose in life that will help be your own personal anchor, giving you the strength to accept what is and to help you move on.  Remember, change requires change from you as well to keep moving into the future.

Growing and changing go hand in hand.  There is no stopping it.  Each new path that we take leads us to a change.  If we flow with the changes we will go to a better place in our lives.  If we resist and worry and wonder we will not allow the changes to benefit our lives.

As we get older and people leave us it is evident that change is unstoppable.  Children grow up and leave a void that is a challenge to fill, forcing us to make huge changes and adapt to a new way of life without the responsibility for others.  Loved ones and friends leave us and we are left to wonder about the next change that will come.  Fear of change is always an issue, as the unknown is a fearful place for many.

Change is inevitable.  The world works in cycles, going around and coming back around again.  People wonder how can things be happening the way they are?  How will we live through this, but we always do, as this is the way of the world and "this too shall pass!"

Maybe we have to look at change differently.  Know that it is forced upon us for a reason.  Believe that new and better things are coming and that we can handle whatever it is.  "Nothing is ever given to us that we can't handle."  Life should be fun and interesting and changes are what make this so.

Life is a cycle and Changes are part of that cycle.  Embrace them!
