Almost Alfredo Sauce - Wheat Free

Print Friendly

Description:
Much of my passion for food comes from working with an amazing caterer when I was thirteen. The cornerstone of many recipes is a good white sauce; but how do you make one without using wheat? It took a while to get the proportions right, I hope you enjoy it!

Ingredients:
3 tbsp butter
4 tbsp oat flour
1¼ cup rice milk
1 tsp fresh lemon juice
¼ tsp sea salt
1 clove garlic
Dash basil
Pepper to taste

Directions:
Melt the butter in a saucepan over med-low heat.

Drop in the oat flour, and sauté for a minute stirring constantly. Pour the milk in gradually while stirring. Increase heat to medium until the mixture starts to bubble, then turn down to low and let simmer.

Add all other ingredients, stirring often. Simmer until the sauce thickens properly, about 8-10 minutes.

Notes: You can serve this alfredo sauce over Wheat-Free and Gluten-Free Pasta

Wellness Tip
Playground safety
The National Safety Council reports that playground injuries send more than 200,000 children to hospital emergency rooms each year. Keep your children and loved ones safe. Check your backyard and neighborhood playgrounds for safety. Key safety needs include smooth edged equipment, guardrails, and soft, yielding ground surfaces, such as mulch or pea gravel.

Children from Another Lifetime?
Sitting in the Green room of the Donahue show many years ago, I witnessed a stunningly surrealistic scene. There was Jenny, a 41-year-old woman from England, sitting with her son, Sonny, age 75, and her daughter, Phyllis, who was 69 years old at the time. Reunited by love, and a past life...

Recipe
Baked Brussels Sprouts with Cranberries
Category: Side Dishes
Description: This red and green side dish is the perfect accompaniment to your Christmas dinner.
Brussels sprouts are available year round; however, they are at their best from autumn through early spring when they are at the peak of their growing season. Cooking methods include boiling, steaming and roasting. To ensure even cooking throughout, buds of a similar size are usually chosen. Some cooks will cut a cross in center of the stem to aid the penetration. Whatever cooking method is employed, overcooking is avoided.
Plant phytonutrients found in Brussels sprouts enhance the activity of the body's natural defense systems to protect against disease, including cancer.
